I’m so pleased I found you guys and well done on all the work you’ve been doing with this since Matt bowed out.

I actually found you because I was trying to find a way to show products related to vendors and it brought me here.

I’m currently still using Matt’s version as I built the site 2 years ago, it’s been running well so I didn’t want to potentially break something that was working well.

    Question 1
Lately I’ve been looking into adding many new features to the site, which it would appear you’ve possibly covered a lot of in the pro version so I may have to invest in that as soon as I can, however I was just wanting to be a complete noob and check that all existing database records for vendors, sales etc. would transfer okay when moved over and that even if I initially screw up the install, it won’t affect any data on the site?

    Question 2
Yes I’ll be backing up the database when I do this but I was just wondering whether it’s worth downloading the site and database and running it in a test environment before I update or whether it’s a relatively straightforward upgrade?

I know I had to put a lot of hacks from Matt Gates’ support groups for making some sections work as needed hence the whole not wanting to break something that was working.

    Question 3
With regards to giving vendors the front end option for adding and editing their own products, is there any compatibility issues with TM WooCommerce Extra Product Options?

Thanks again and keep up the good work.

Wow! Where have you been all these years!? MUCH has changed since PV. 😉 It’s barely even the same code base any longer, almost everything has been rewritten and improved.

1.) Yup! You would lose zero data in your upgrade. Everything would just “work”. We still use the same identical commissions database and structure. Install, activate, and enjoy. Remember: WC Vendors Pro requires you ALSO have WC Vendors Free installed and activated. They run “together”.

2.) Always backup. 🙂 If your site gets more than 15-20 orders a day, test on a dev environment. If not, I’d just do it live since it’s pretty easy, and restore only if you run into a critical problem.

3.) In Pro, yes. You would have to add those extra fields to the Pro add/edit product form. If you are using Variable products, don’t go Pro yet, wait for Pro v1.3.0 to be released and that will include variations support. I’ve never used that plugin you are referring to, but in general all third party addons do is add extra meta keys and values to do stuff..

    Cheers

Whoa, you guys weren’t kidding about the awesome support and response times.

As I said, it wasn’t broken so in a fashion the site has been hiding under a rock since the old vendor plugin version was installed.

With ref to Q3. Variable products didn’t offer the level of variation I required on the products I was selling as I wanted something that offered conditional options for different products along with different variations of product, size and colour on them which was how I opted to use that.

To be honest it’s a pain in the backside to setup for every product so I’ve been looking for an easier way to do it but if you think v1.3.0 will be more appropriate I’ll keep an eye out for that release.

    Thanks again.

Sorry, Q4 (which knowing my luck may have already been answered in another forum post) With reference to vendors setting their own price, commission and delivery options, are these things that can be turned off?

I produce everything sold on my site so the shipping goes to me and the vendors get a set % commission from the product sale so there’d probably be a few things I’d need to turn off or edit from the vendor front end.

You might consider just adding a few custom fields for size and color on the add/edit product form and call it a day! Or, just add a few attributes and then those would automatically show up on the add/edit product page.

4.) Vendors don’t set their own commission. 🙂 Admins do! The vendor can not change their commission rate whatsoever. You can disable the shipping system or keep the Vendor Shipping system enabled, but that wouldn’t allow you to charge shipping if disabled. What you’d do, is turn off the shipping fields on the Product form (via wp-admin checkboxes) and then set global rates for shipping on the wp-admin shipping settings. Then, all vendors are forced to use your rates, and can not set their own. 🙂 You can also keep shipping on, and give yourself all the shipping, but unchecking the “Give vendors shipping per product”.

Cheers Ben, look forward to updating the site with all the cool new features you guys have put in as well as the work I’m doing on my site.

    All the best.

Hi there, I started this question over a year ago with the intention of updating my site at the time, unfortunately life kinda got in the way and I’m now back to having a play around with updating my site.

I recently ran a plugin test tool to see what was causing slow loading times and discovered that the old Matt Gates plugin accounts for over 67% (at least 3 seconds) of my site’s loading time. Other than needing to update WooCommerce I also really need to look into replacing my old plugin with your new ones and I was just wondering if the same information you said before is relevant.

Also I use the TM Extra Product Options (another plugin I need to update) because the built in Variations wasn’t giving me the conditional options I needed for my site.

Do you think there’ll be any issues with swapping to your plugin?

    Thanks in advance.

    WooCommerce is much faster now.

WC Vendors Free has been rewritten twice, and on its third rewrite coming soon.

WC Vendors Pro has had some one thousand five hundred changes.

    Yep, you’re a bit behind!

    You need to:

1.) Turn off your vendor plugins

2.) Update to WooCommerce 3.0 and get all your themes and other plugins working and happy.

    3.) Install WC Vendors Free.

4.) Purchase and install WC Vendors Pro, optional

From there, everything actually should work just fine. All the original upgrade routines for Product Vendors are still a part of the code and would update your site after you activate Free.

If you have issues, just reply. We’re here.

    Hi Ben,

Cheers for that. Reading back through the thread I realised that I was waiting for the v1.3.0 update before I upgraded and then life got in the way.

I installed a fresh copy of WordPress, WooCommerce and the free WCVendors on my computer in a test environment and everything looked great so then I tentatively tried installing it on the live site which sadly killed my site but then as you’ve just said, I need to update to WooCommerce 3.0 so I’ll have to back it all up again and have a go at doing all the updates on the test one.

Cheers for the help, can’t wait to get this updated and running your version.
