Hi everyone,
I wondered if someone can help. I need to add text boxes for customers to fill in on the product page when buying.
We have personalised products and allow customers to add their own text to their product – so variations wouldn’t cut it.
I currently use a very unstable plug in called WC Fields Factory to do this.
It’s broken (again). Also the way to add these text boxes to products is very confusing for Vendors. The fields display based on category rules, so I’ve created some extra categories like this that the vendors tick to add a text box for their customers:
Also text added by customers only appears on the Order Confirmation email – not the WCVendors Orders in their Dashboard.
Does anyone have any experience of using a different (more stable) plug in or have developed something themselves?

Curiosity, why not just install BuddyPress and let the members message your crafties with the details after they buy?
Hi Ben,
As the Crafties (and me!) live with Chronic Illness, what I always try to do is reduce the steps involved in getting/processing sales. Having the text field completed by the customer during purchase cuts out that extra communication and waiting for responses. We’re always having to choose where we spend energy ever so carefully. So the Crafties loved having this functionality.
Of course the plug in provider for the fields still hasn’t contacted me, so I need to find an alternative way rather than wait for it to be fixed.
I don’t have Buddy Press activated yet, I was waiting to see what you guys did with the internal messaging system Jamie wanted to set up. Would he be building on BuddyPress for this do you think?
Also your forum on here – is this done via Buddy Press and Buddy Press add ons?

We *want* to build our own private messaging system — one day. When will that one day be? Probably not for like 10+ months. 🙂 It’s VERY low on the priority list since BuddyPress Private Messages already work, work well, and do the job. The forum software we use is bbPress, which integrates with — but doesnt require — BuddyPress. Our private messaging system here is also BuddyPress.
