    Hi,

I’m sorry if this has been covered I couldn’t find a definitive post on the topic.

I was wondering if anyone has found a way to add categories to a shop page that show the categories of just that shop’s items.

Or is this being developed? This feature would be incredibly useful! As Items build up stores can become a little unwieldy.

    Thanks!

Yes! This is the reason we designed the Vendor Stores. WC Vendors Free hooked into the WooCommerce archive-products.php template, and that would only show products. With the Vendor Stores, we will soon give you the option to display categories for products a vendor has in their store, and those will show only that vendors products within the categories. It’s a bit early still, but this is one of our top priorities. All of the underlying framework for it is complete.

Hi! Just wondering if this is available yet?

I’ve wondered whether we could edit this code to include and “if vendor slug” type condition…

    Hide empty categories in woocommerce

Nope, not yet. I dont think that code you linked to would be of any use. It’s much more complex than that. 🙂

Hi any news on an ETA for this feature?

I was also wondering when it arrives if it will work like woocommerce, where by it would work in conjunction with the widget?

I’m currently trying to set up the shop page within a buddypress profile which can be seen here – http://www.redstow.com/members/lauriedugdale/ (the site is far from complete). As you can see I’ve got a space for categories on the left. Is there scope for it to work like this? Perhaps allowing for a category short code that works with the vendors shortcode?

    Thanks!

Work has not begin on categories in the vendor shops. What we have to do is add an option to “Disable Complex Stores”, which is the same thing that Pro has now already enabled by default. The complex stores is all you see in Pro. But, we have learned a very hard lesson — in that about 30% of theme developers have no f’n clue what the hell they are doing when they write a theme. We’ve found where they add code to WooCommerce templates, instead of using hooks, force specific layouts regardless of the post type, and many more horrible things that a theme developer should *NEVER* do. So, we’ll be adding options first to “Disable Complex Stores” and hook into the archive-product.php template instead.

So what does this mean for YOU? Well, probably nothing, other than it takes more code and testing for us to write.

    — Complex stores enabled will mean that you — once it is written — will be able to feature products, or use categories instead, etc….. and this will be the /vendor_stores/ you have now, just with more tweaks and features of course.

    — Complex stores disabled will provide the exact same functionality that /vendors/ does in WC Vendors Free, and will not allow you to feature products or use categories instead.

Remember, any new feature that is discussed or problems, may not happen, or may turn out better than we expected. Sometimes you don’t know what you can or can not do until you start to hammer at the keys and code it up. 🙂 WooCommerce provides unlimited extendability however there are always caveats. 🙂 Summary, please remember not to “count on” these things, but know we are working on them to the best any coder possibly could. They may change as time progresses, we just have to get started on it to be able to know more.

    Sorry for the delay.

However thanks for the incredibly comprehensive and interesting reply!

Keep up the great work! I eagerly await the end result 🙂

Most likely we will not be able to support categories in vendor stores because we will most likely be rolling back the vendor store with its own template functionality since so many theme developers code their themes wrong causing nightmares for some Pro buyers. We’ll likely hook back into archive-product.php for the store loop in Pro which would cause us never to be able to support categories. 🙁 Sucks, I know, but have to do what we have to do. We’ll know more as time progresses, these changes are planned for Pro v1.3.

    Thats a real shame.

Would it be possible to have a rough guide when you get to 1.3. So it might be possible to hack ones own solution? Or would hooking back into archive-product.php stop others from doing it themselves without changing plugin files?

Or maybe provide stock templates with the plugin that allow users to upload on a child theme that removes the bad code from of their own theme? Or maybe bypass the templates with your own? if possible?

Unknown at this point. We still have much to do before 1.3 work begins……..

Hi will hooking back in to archive-product.php affect the vendor rss feed? Will there still be a vendor post type? thanks!

    Hi Laurie,

WordPress handles the /rss appendage to slugs, so I dont think that would have any affect, no. I cant say for sure, though, so do your own homework and see how it works before and after!

    Cheers

    Ben
