    Hey guys

Are chained Paypal payments supported in PRO? I’ve been using this workaround for almost a year now, and it’s been working without a hitch: https://www.wcvendors.com/knowledgebase/paypal-chained-payments-support/ – is this implemented in pro?

    Hello

No chained payments are not in pro. I would have to update the existing gateway to support this which would require a little reworking. Once I’ve fixed the existing issues in pro and then worked on getting the UI fixed. I’ll then be looking at the new shipping system before I would consider this an option.

I had a meeting with a Paypal developer evangelist today and after my discussion with him, I might hold off on any more work on the existing gateway code. There are some big changes in how a lot of the systems we currently use will work in the future including a whole bunch of new code meaning the classic applications will eventually not be used anymore. This means I’ll have to write a whole new gateway for free anyway. To be honest chained payments are a difficult thing to support when we are using global cart (more than one vendor in an order). Paypal has said that if the marketplace isn’t the primary receiver that things won’t go so well especially when it comes to refunds. If the marketplace is the primary receiver than you don’t really need to use chained or parallel and could just use the MassPay system instead. This also gives you a buffer for processing refunds.

I haven’t forgotten about this, it’s just not high on the list at the moment.

    cheers,

    Jamie.

Hi Jamie, thanks for the update. Chained payments are essential to my store, so I’ll be holding off doing anything with Pro till that’s in place then. The current solution in free is working flawlessly for me – and has been all along – , so I’ll continue to use this till it’s hopefully available in Pro too. I’ve hardly done any refunds in my shop ever (few do, when it comes to downloads, I’m guessing), and the fact that the payment is split instantly is a crucial feature for my vendors, not to mention it’s hassle- and maintenance-free for all of us. So I wholeheartedly hope you continue supporting chained payments.

    Thanks,
    – A

Nothing is changed in PayPal for WC Vendors Pro. PayPal is part of Free. And you can use it in Pro, just like you can in Free. Nothing is different in PayPal no matter if you use WCV Free or WCV Pro. 🙂

OK, you got me slightly confused now Ben. 🙂 Will chained payments work in Pro or not?

No. Chained payments has never worked in Pro, has never worked in Free. It’s never been a feature of ANY part of WC Vendors, or Matt’s Product Vendor, at any time in the past, ever. 🙂

Well, of course you’re correct in that it’s never been officially supported – but in reality it’s been working beautifully for me since I launched my shop, thanks to that solution/workaround. Reality matters too, I’d argue 🙂 And it’s such an essential feature that I wholeheartedly hope you’ll continue to allow it work.

Oh, you must be using that weird code that Matt wrote like 2 or 3 years ago for it, then.

WC Vendors Pro does NOT modify the PayPal AP gateway in any fashion. Any way you have PayPal AP setup now, will work with Pro. It’s all the exact same. So if you have managed to hack Chained support in, you should be good to go without any problems.

Hey Ben, yeah, I’m using this one: https://www.wcvendors.com/help/topic/jamie-question-paypal-chained-payments/ – and I think hacking makes it sound rather more complicated than it is 🙂 I’ve simply replaced the original paypal_ap.php with the one Jamie shared in that thread – and that’s it, chained payments have been working like a charm ever since. Only issue has been to manually do this every time a new version of WCV comes out, but that’s certainly manageable.

But good to hear nothing is changed in that regard – guess I’ll just drop in the replacement file in Pro then! Maybe it’d even be worth including the replacement file instead of the current one per default, as this’d enable chained payments out of the box?

You’re close! You don’t need to drop that file into Pro. Pro has NOTHING to do with gateways. That’s WC Vendors Free. Pro and Free run at the same time, and Free has the gateway. So, just keep it updated when you update Free, and you need to do nothing when you install or update Pro. 🙂
