    Hello,

I am currently using social marketplace theme and recently found out by some independant php engineers that the marketplace plugin is coded poorly so is not scalable. I have 3500+ products and it takes 20+ seconds to load homepage. There are other users who experienced the same so we raised a complaint to Buddyboss and the founder said he would fix the plugin now.

Regardless of their support, however, I decided to change the theme and, after doing some research, found “re:vendor” and “handy” themes pretty cool. But to avoid the disastrous experience like the one I had with Buddyboss, I was just wondering if there is anyone here using these themes with over thousands of products and not experiencing any performance issue.

Thank you all in advance for your suggestions/advice.

    Best,
    Jay

I am sorry to hear you had trouble with that theme– Have you expressed these concerns and discoveries to the theme author, BuddyBoss?
I would not recommend Handy Store.. I know there are some users here that like it- but it can be troublesome and slow to update. In my experience, anyway.
I know ReHub authors are responsive and the theme is updated frequently, however it is also heavy theme like Social Marketplace. It has some nice integration with BuddyPress. The ReHub:Vendors is a child theme that you run in tandem with ReHub.

I’ve used Kleo for several sites running WC Vendors.

Otherwise– Ben and I are working on making a WC Vendors theme. It is not ready yet- but we hope to have it released within the next few months.

    Hi Anna,

Thank you for your suggestions. Yes, the difficult part was to convince Buddyboss that the issue was coming from their plugin. I am not sure if it’s approriate to mention here but this independent php engineer I work with doesn’t believe they have the technical expertise to optimize the theme&plugin so recommended me to move onto a new theme asap.

It seems Kleo theme you recommended has many child themes as well. which one of these works best with your plugin?

    Hello,
I have heard that larger sites are experiencing some difficulties with the Social Marketplace. I hesitate to comment much; but I will say that I have seen some issues, yes. Hopefully they will work to address some of these issues so that their product will be more suitable for larger sites.

I have worked with Kleo quite a bit in the past for WC Vendors and non-WC Vendors websites. It is a nice theme- kind of good for a lot of different types of sites that use BuddyPress or BBPress. Kleo does not have a specific child theme.. just a blank child theme so you can add custom code if needed.
I am not sure how Kleo handles a very large site. Kleo is not specifically designed for WC Vendors– as in, it does not have special styling for WC Vendors, but I know it works with WC Vendors just fine. It does have some special styling for BBpress and Buddypress.

The ReHub theme is the one that has a bunch of child themes. I have looked into that theme a little bit- it is a bit complicated, but I know some users here are happy with it. It also has bbpress and buddypress styling, and a lot of the same integration that Social Marketplace has. I am not at all sure how that theme will handle a large site and if it is as query intensive as Social Marketplace.

Thanks Anna. yea, I understand that WP-based website may not be quite suitable for really large sites that contain over some hundred thousands of products and it would definitely need customization to handle that many products or completely move on to different platform such as Magento. but, experiencing performance issue with just a little over 3k products is something I would’ve never expected..

Kleo sounds interesting but I think I like re:vendor better just becuase it doesn’t need much customization and has many features I’d require. I am checking a few things with the theme author and had my engineer look into the theme as well. I will let you know how it goes.

@ELSA : possible to share your site url. I am using buddyboss theme for over 4 months now and have been able to optimize it for a 2 second page load with around 1000 products on store.
