I am in the process of creating a photo store where different photographers (vendors in this case) will be able to upload photos to sell. I use a batch plugin that works with woocommerce called bulk photo to product importer. It takes batches of photos and makes them into woocommerce products automatically. Is there any way to hook this plugin and its functionality into the vendor user role? Photographers for our site will be using the standard woocommerce add product interface, as well as this “BPTPI” interface. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

It’s very very difficult for us to say what plugins will or will not work out of the box. The biggest thing Woo plugins do wrong, is they don’t allow you to choose the “author” of the product, because a lot of plugin developers just ASSume that the admin adding the products will be the author. 🙂 When I say Author, think Vendor! A Vendor is nothing more than the author of the product. So, if you can find a way to map the product to the vendors username as the post_author, you are good to go! And please, if you find a plugin that happily works as is without modifications, please do let us know the name/link to it so we can add it to our Plugin Compatibility KB article for everyone to benefit from. 🙂

Now if the question is “Can vendors add this on the Add Product Page” you need to ask the Plugin Developer to allow the role “Vendor” to access the plugin, instead of just “Administrator”. Usually they can create a filter for this, and then you just add the filter to your themes functions.php file, and sometimes they will add it into the plugin settings in wp-admin instead giving you a checkbox for it or whatever….

    Cheers

    Ben

This plugin did work out of the box! I had to add the user role editor plugin and add manage woocommerce to the list of capabilities, then it worked great.
