    Hiya Ben and @DigitalChild

I’ve recently experienced this twice which is the same as issue #3733. I haven’t commented on that issues as it had already been gatecrashed and it’s kinda lost track of what the initial issue was about lol!

So I’ve had two customer orders for one Vendor recently and the Vendor didn’t receive their order confirmation email. I however received an Order CANCELLED email. I looked in Orders within wp-admin and the log showed me this error:

‘Error ID: 580022. Invalid request parameter: name must be 100 characters or less Order status changed from Pending Payment to Cancelled.’

I’ve tested this by buying the item and received the same error. Then I tested reducing her product name (she’s a bit of a word smith!) and the order magically went through fine 🙂

    So request is…
Can we have validation on product name to prevent Vendors adding more than say 90 words (ideally less as lots write essays in there that I’m forever shortening!).

    Many thanks,

    Karen

Her product name was more than 100 characters long? That’s the same as 3 lengthy sentences, which is silly for a product title. I cant add limits for this, if it’s just a PayPal limitation. Others may (weirdly) want this feature, and if it works for other gateways but not with PayPal you’ll just have to keep an eye on it as an admin. If it is any consolation, this is the first time it’s ever been reported to us in almost 3 years. 🙂 All you can do is coach your vendors and keep an eye out on new listings, which of course, should already be getting done. 🙂

Hi Ben, if you read above you’ll see another issue when this was previously raised (#3733) 😉

Any how, is there a way to add a word count to the product name and description?

Search engines like descriptions to be wordy, but Vendors either write too little or too much. Having a word count as they are typing would be a good nice to have if you could add it to your list?

    Thank you,

    Karen

“wordpress limit title length” — Google, see some plugins, see some posts. Adding a word count to the dashboard form would be a bit too intense for us to add at this point, we need to do other things first like variations. 🙂 Future? Maybe. Now? No time.

ok just asking, I’m as desperate as everyone for the variations!

If you do decide to add it to the ever growing list, these are the optimal limits for Search Engines:
Title should ideally be no more than 70 characters
Description should be between between 150-250 words

    Thanks,

    Karen

I don’t think we’d ever impose a 70 character or 150-250 word limit — but rather — provide some standard defaults such as what you suggested, and then allow the admin to override them on the Product Form page.

Since we have validation stuff to add to the options page we’d probably bundle it all together and do everything at once on them and then it’s not just a piece at a time. We’ve been making the move away from filters, into admin options to make the plugin easier to use for everyone and easier to customize. The filters will still always work of course, so you get the best of both worlds. 🙂
