    Hi team,

Running into a problem here. My store is a digital marketplace and when a user submits a product they include the download. Part of the process is that I have to review the download (PDF in my case).

However, I have the WooCommerce file download settings set to X-Accel-Redirect/X-Sendfile. This is so people can’t go to the URL direct and download a product that they haven’t paid for.

But because I have these settings it means that I – as the admin – can’t actually view the PDFs to review because it involves visiting the link directly via the Media Library.

Do you know of a way around this?

    Cheers

    Nino

    Hi Nino,

I have a site I admin similar to that, and what I do is when I edit the product page, I copy and paste the URL of the download into my browser. It saves to disk, I view it, and approve it acccordingly.

The X-Accel is for using secured download links to hide the file path/name from the downloading customer. The edit product page still shows you the entire actual path of the file, which should be no issue for you. It will likely just view the PDF in your browser window instead of forcing it to download since you arent using WooCommerce to download, you’re just sending a HTTP request.

    Hi Ben,

That’s what I was doing but I get the following error when set to X-Accell or Force Download:

    Forbidden

You don’t have permission to access /wp-content/uploads/woocommerce_uploads/2016/01/example_file.pdf on this server.

I can do what you are suggesting with the setting on ‘Redirect Only’. Is that still secure and all that jazz? Any drawbacks?

    Cheers

    Nino

Aah, that’s a different issue all together. WooCommerce has a .htaccess file in ./woocommerce_uploads/ that forbids direct access to files uploaded to that folder. You would have to remove the .htaccess file, or change the rule for it so that it only denies everyone except your IP. I pretty much suck at htaccess rules, they are complex and can vary depending on your webserver environment. You might reach out to the Facebook Advanced WooCommerce group and ask them “How can I add my IP to the woocomerce_uploads .htaccess file so that I can view files?”

Where can I find said Advanced WooCommerce group by the way?
