    Hello,
This is because there is javascript in the files.. and Microsoft and Google have gotten crazy with blocking all .zip files that contain javascipt from being downloaded. Instead of checking to see if ti actually contains a virus, they just blanket define javascript files. It is quite frustrating. I can’t even send .zip files of WC Vendors or other plugins via gmail any more- I have to use Dropbox.

Use FireFox; tell Windows Defender to ignore the file.

This is an issue not only for us- but for any other plugin developer who has javascript through their .zip files. It will be come more of an issue now as WordPress moves more and more toward javascript!

This comes up once a month and has since October 2016.

    There is no virus.

Bruno’s false positive at virustotal is because of Javascript.

All our code is not only virus free, but also visible by browsing in any damn text editor you want, so you can clearly see it is not a virus. Microsoft and Google are clamping down on “regular users” having Java because they dont trust you to tell the difference between good software and bad software.

So, we cant really do anything about Microsoft or Google or stupid web based things giving a bad positive. If you think there’s a virus in the code, show it to me. Show me the code that is the virus. If you can, I will pay you $1000 cash money.

i download installable .zip files with js inside from codecanyon and wordpress.org every day without any problems.

it’s true that you can’t send .zip files with js inside in gmail anymore, but that’s to prevent phishing (source: http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/3003355/google-to-ban-javascript-attachments-in-gmail).

this is different, there’s no gmail involved. also, i was able to download the .zip file for 1.4.0 without any problems a few days ago.

@ben it not the customer’s responsibility to find a potential virus in your code for you, so “Show me the code that is the virus. If you can, I will pay you $1000 cash money” is not helpful.

i’m not even saying that there is a virus in your code. what i’m saying, (and what is being echoed by other customers) is that we’re unable to download the file.

so perhaps instead of getting defensive and pretending that there is no problem, it would be a good idea to investigate the issue? god forbid, maybe thank us for bringing it to your attention? because a) it’s kinda important to be able to download the plugin, and b) on the off-chance that there is indeed a backdoor in your plugin, you might want to know about it.

Can I ask why it has happened recently to only a few and not all downloads?

You could, or you could just pause Windows Defender for ten seconds, download the zip file, and be done with it. 🙂

To actually answer your question without my usual sarcasm, though, the issue comes down to MICROSOFT and GOOGLE. They think YOU are dumb. That’s right. They think YOU, ME, and everyone here is dumb and cant figure out malicious code vs good code. So, they are marking javascript as malicious, even though it is not.

You cant even attach zip files with javascript in them with Gmail anymore as of last month. Try it, it’ll fail to attach.

Since MS and GOOG think we are idiots, this is the result. It creates problems for you in order to also ‘keep you safe’.

The solution, rather simply, is to simply pause the virus scanner for ten seconds and do the work. Then turn it back on.

The ONLY way to permanently resolve this, is for ALL of us to write Microsoft a very sternly worded letter and demand they answer us — or else.
