    HI Ben and @DigitalChild,

As you’re unfortunately having remove the Vendor Stores, will this affect the Shop Settings pages at all?

What I’m wondering is will Vendors still be able to add their Social links, address, banner etc?

    Many thanks,

    Karen

    Hi Ben,

This post makes me want to clarify something before the upgrade to 1.2 is released. Are vendor stores being removed completely? If so what is going in their place?

I just re-read the email you sent at the last upgrade and you talk about hooking into archive-product.php but this means absolutely nothing to me and I don’t know what the practical implications of this are for me as the store owner and individual vendors.

    Cheers

    Hi Nino,

It will be a seamless upgrade. Update to v1.2.0, and that’s it. All of the vendor store data will be moved to the User Edit page, including banners, icons, social, etc…. Rather than editing the vendors store in wp-admin to change things, you edit the vendors user account. That’s it!

Removing the vendor stores will have zero affect on your website, vendors, or customers. It is being removed because theme authors are hard coding style changes directly into templates, which makes the pages look like crap in about half of the themes out there. If theme developers weren’t such shitty hacks most of the time and actually learned to develop a theme correctly, we wouldnt have to change anything. 🙂

If you have any templates you’ve modified to get data from the vendor store you want to simply rename get_post_meta to get_user_meta and everything will work fine, same meta keys and values. If you haven’t done any custom coding on your site, you can ignore this entire paragraph. 🙂

    Cheers

    Hey Ben,

Can I add my source of confusion (and excuse me if I’m being thick too lol). When the vendor stores are removed and the data moved to the user profiles etc, where will their info (banner, store description, URL/Phone etc) display on the front-end? Currently, the only place I see the info being used is on the vendor stores post type. I don’t yet understand where the vendor will kind of have their own front-end page of any kind with their own info and products, if at all.

edit( I see on the description of the free plugin that vendors have their own store front. I have only ever known vendor store templates, could you enlighten me on where they exist and where I may be able to see one in action)

@bobloblaw88 the store data can be changed by the admin on the vendors user edit screen. The rest of the changes should be pretty transparent to you. 🙂 We’ll use hooks and the archive-product.php template, similar to how WC Vendors Free does it now, to show the same store information at the top of their product listings.

    Hi Ben,
Do u know if the shop urls will remain the same? Lots of my Crafties have their shop link printed on their business cards.
Also I loved vendor stores because it allowed me to add ‘SELLER AWAY’ or ‘USE COUPON CODE XXX’ to Crafties shop name without it changing their url like in free.
    Will we lose this functionality?
    Many thanks,
    Karen
