I thought I’d report back with what I heard from Stripe. If I’m understanding correctly it sounds like only the merchant gets charged the transaction fee, then the funds are distributed to the vendors.
“The platform you are talking about is called Connect, and it’s a really great tool for managing market places.
Stripes fees for connect are 2.9% plus 30c per transaction. This fee is taken from the initial charge one of your customers makes. You can read more on this here: https://stripe.com/us/pricing
I will use an example to show what happens to a charge:
A customer makes a payment of $10
Stripe takes a fee of 2.9% plus 30c =.59c
You can take your marketplace commission from the original $10 charge. For example, you could charge 10% per transaction, in this case 10% of $10 = $1
This leaves $8.41 remaining that can then be transferred to your users”Edited to add this link – I missed it before, but it explains in more detail than the one they gave me above: https://stripe.com/docs/connect/payments-fees

I’m looking into all options. I need specific features and I will have custom work done to get what I want. I’m in full research mode and trying to get my marketing strategy and pricing structure set. I will report back if I find out how these transaction fees are handled. Thanks for your help.

Does your gateway split up the transaction fees or does that happen after it gets sent to Stripe? I’m trying to figure out if the 30 cent transaction fee gets split or if everyone getting a payment gets charged 30 cents.
ogiaParticipantI want to do something similar, but I’m wondering if each seller then gets hit with a transaction fee? Let’s say the order is split between 3 sellers – do each pay the 30 cent fee, or is it split so that each only pays 10 cents?
ogiaParticipantGood question. I need this too. 🙂
ogiaParticipantI guess I will just wait and see if it haopens again. Hopefully the slug will stay set too.
Thanks for your help.
ogiaParticipantI still can’t edit that product though. Why is it not setting for that one product? The slug issue was very random. It’s possible I created that product when it was messed up. The site would stop functioning properly then I would check and the slug would be set back to shop.
ogiaParticipantI wanted to change it to sellers, but it keeps reverting back to shop. This makes at least 3 or 4 times now. Is there any reason why I can’t use ‘sellers’?
ogiaParticipantI tried a new product and it works with it. The existing product, the Christmas one with no image, still will not save the featured image when I try to edit it.
Could the shop slug name have caused that product to not behave correctly?
ogiaParticipantThat’s funny because I had problems with that slug. I have changed it from shop to sellers more than once and it keeps reverting back. I did use shop initially and it caused problems with the pages not linking/loading properly. any idea why that wouldn’t be sticking?
I’m going to go test the image now with a vendor account.
ogiaParticipantDoes this help?

ogiaParticipant@richeetzen did you install it?
I also need to take out affiliate commissions first, then what’s left will be split with the vendor.
If it’s not working this way, I will pursue custom coding so perhaps we can work together to split the costs of the development.
ogiaParticipantI need this feature too. To take it a step further, a very popular marketplace I use has the option to “follow” a vendor. Following a vendor = email updates and the number of followers is shown in the vendor’s shop.
