    Hi Anna,

I detected the following issues in the Media library, which I do not know if they are related to my theme (Enfold) or related to wcvendors plugin:

1 -Filter boxes – Are misaligned

    2 – Media sidebar
2.1 – Unable to edit image ‘title’, ‘caption’, ‘alt text’and ‘description’.
    2.2 – Custom link – Is misaligned

    Appreciate your kindly help

Does this occur when you are using your media library as an admin, when the vendors use their media library, or both?
    I am thinking this is a theme issue or a theme/plugin issue…

    Hi Anna,

I forgot to inform you that this occurs only when the vendors use their media library.
Also they can not select more than one image at same time from media library.

    Hi Anna,

As I told you in my last answer this occurs only when the vendors use their media library.
I contacted the author’s theme support and they corrected the misalignments.

    However:
1 – is impossible to edit image ‘title’, ‘caption’, ‘alt text’and ‘description’.
2 – can not select more than one image at same time from media library.

This occurs whatever the theme is (Enfold, twenty fourteen, fifteen, sixteen…), so I think it’s related with wcvendors plugin.

    I appreciate your help

    Kind Regards

    Hi Elsa

I think the questions have already been answered in the forums before.

there is a way to allow vendors to edit image title and caption but it assigns too much control and the users and vendors can access other stuff (potential dangerous). It sucks I know but its been answered, at least from what I remember.

other ones answered too but cant remember.

    Elsa,

1 – is impossible to edit image ‘title’, ‘caption’, ‘alt text’and ‘description’.
2 – can not select more than one image at same time from media library.

No, vendors do not have permission to edit the title caption and description fields for the images. This is a limitation imposed by allowing them to have a media library access to just their own images, but NOT allowing them to have all media library access to all images on the site. I believe the permission in wordpress are “all or nothing “in this respect. If they are allowed access that will give them the ability to alter these cations, etc., then they also will be able to view and alter other users’ images and all site images.

    2. If you are using a PC (windows), try holding down “ctrl” and then selecting images to upload to your media library. For product listings, though, you can not select the whole batch to be loaded into the product image gallery on the product add/edit page. These need to be selected one at a time. You CAN however, select more than one image to be loaded from your computer into the media library by using the Ctrl and selecting a batch of images.

    Hi Anna,

1 – I think it’s a limitation that vendors can not access only their own images and we have to be limited to the “all or nothing“. However, I am clear with your answer.

2- So vendors can not select more than one image at same time from media library. I think you could review this situation in future versions.

    Thank you for your support.

    Kind Regards

    Elsa @bemvestir and Anna @fervous

I was able to allow my site so that vendors can edit the ‘title’, ‘caption’, ‘alt text’and ‘description’ of their images when they upload or reattach them to product listings.

I have PODS plugin on my site which I use to administer roles and responsibilities of my various account types.
https://en-ca.wordpress.org/plugins/pods/. This plugin was installed by my original developer and I’m not completely sure what other aspects of me site this is overriding so it may not be the solution for yours BUT it might give you a place to start some research or experiments.

See the attached screenshot showing the different rolls I administer and then the bottom is a shot inside the “vendor” roll and when I allow the “edit post” check box then the vendor is allowed to edit the ‘title’, ‘caption’, ‘alt text’and ‘description’ of their images.

NOW this being said this is a new change I have made and have not explored if this “edit posts” check box allows vendors to access content that is not their own but so far it has been working well.

@thrivinglocally thanks for the sharing. I’ll have to check first if this results in my site.
But it’s like you said, this gives me an opportunity to start some research or experiments.

    Hmmmmmm this is interesting.

I’ve just installed the pods plugin that @thivinglocally mentioned and indeed it does allow the vendor to change picture titles and descriptions.

We all know @Ben and @Jamie can’t program every bit of functionality into wcvendors but it would be nice to get their opinion of this plugin to see if it has been coded well enough to avoid assigning control or pitfalls somewhere to vendors that we non-programmers can’t see/understand.

Obviously, we all have to be wary of powerful plugin such as this one, and if truth be told I would rather not have this installed and edit stuff I don’t really get but I think it an important feature to have, especially if we can get better seo and allow screen readers to better understand the web pages.

whilst I know you’re all incredibly busy I would like to hear your thoughts about it.

If another plugin does what you want it to do for this functionality, there’d be zero reason for us to also add that code in to WC Vendors and burdening us with a larger codebase and then also have to maintain it. We like Pro to be one plugin of unique code, not a combination of a bunch of already-available free plugins. 🙂

Nifty find, that pods plugin. Well done!

This is just speaking conversationally I am confused by your answer ben. I totally agree with you that if the jobs been done well by another plugin there’s no reason why you should have to spend time coding yours. However, my point on this occasion was I felt like this was a BIG plugin to do this job. They look like serious coders with big reviews and big installs, but personally, I feel like I’m installing a powerful plugin to get one feature that might be better served another way. Although, like you said this is a nifty find and it might be more useful down the line.

Perhaps true, but it’s to the benefit of about 2% of Pro users who want vendors to change that. Every site has a 2% problem, every site wants to do something a *little* different. This one is yours. 🙂

this one is elsas – however, from my point of view, I just want to add functionality that I think users come to expect and being able to name their photos on upload is one. I wasn’t asking for anything but an opinion of what you thought of this plugin if you got a chance to look at it.

    @nofski
Before Pro came about, I was using PODS to add in some forms and collect info from the vendors. I also used it for an image uploader at one time for users to add additional images. That’s long past- but I did really like the Pods plugin- as far as form builders, I found it to be the most versatile and least buggy out of all I tried. I will use it again when I build my personal non-marketplace website. It is a very cool plugin.
As much as I liked NinjaForms, surprisingly I found it caused some compatibility issues with my site.

Anyway, what are you concerned about with the pods? The permissions issues regarding the image titles and data?
When I used Pods- which was, again, before Pro was released, I did not have any issues at all with it, and I found their website to be incredibly helpful and full of info and ideas. I do NOT know if it does or will cause an issue with Pro at this time.

    Hi Anna

I was not ignoring you in the conversation I thought it was more programming related and just wanted a bit of assurance.

I have no real concerns, just doing my research about something new

However, for clarities sake let me explain my thinking.

On the one hand, at the top of this topic we are informed, and I paraphrase that the wordpress permissions for the media editor are either one or all

we then get a plugin that seemingly allows for the media editor to be accessed by each vendor and resolves the issue that the topic was raised for.

However, it is using a role editor to assign different permissions to a user’s role. Again, from my limited reading around and own experience this can be a bit dangerous, especially for the novice. And no one wants to change something that may potential leave a hole in their website.

    thats all I was saying.

AND im not sure it does change the name. it seemingly does in the media editor but when I load the page and click image properties it is still saying the old name of the uploaded media. I will have a play around and see if its my set up.

    Understood.
If it is messing with the roles- then yes, this can cause security issues.
I will see if I can tinker with this configuration on my dev site .. I am not entirely sure what’s being done to allow the vendors this permission UNLESS it is messing with role permissions.
Now that I have read through the earlier posts more thoroughly I see that it is indeed assigning roles.
Now I understand your concern. I kinda jumped into the conversation before reading the earlier posts. I thought the question was more regarding PODS than the actual role permissions.
