    Hi Anna,

Regarding Admins and Vendors I hope you can clarify a few issues for me (is Pro more eBay than Amazon and what is best practice for a site admin who also has products to sell?).

Background: We have a jewllery shop and sell our own products, in addition we have designers who supply us on a sale or return basis which are also sold in the shop. We are setting up this model online using Pro.

On a standard Woo Commerce site the Admin is the seller. When using WC V Pro is this still the case with the vendors as additional sellers with the role of vendor?

When setting up Pro, with best practice in mind, do I:

A (Amazon – sells and has market place sellers also) – Sell our own products as Admin as we do with standard Woo powered sites and set up the other suppliers as Vendors?
(If this is the case then are there two different shipping cost systems – Standard Shipping Classes for me and the WC Vendors shipping for our sellers? And does this matter?)
    Or
B (eBay – provides a platform for sellers) – Have Admin as simply Admin and set up ourselves as a Vendor like our other sellers?
(if this is the case, do we need two PayPal accounts, one as Admin and another one for ourselves as sellers?).

    Thanking you in advance,

    John

    Hello,

On a standard Woo Commerce site the Admin is the seller. When using WC V Pro is this still the case with the vendors as additional sellers with the role of vendor?

You can certainly continue to sell your products as the site admin.
You have two choices for listing and selling products as the admin:
    1. AMAZON LIKE: You can use the standard WooCommerce admin product add/edit to list your products- just as you would without WC Vendors. And yes- your shipping rates would be different. I do not *think* this is an issue– I do know that some users run their marketplace in this fashion.

    2. eBAY LIKE: You can make yourself a vendor account. In that case you would have a vendors store page, just like your vendors. If you wish to omit yourself from paying commissions, you can go to your own vendor account in wp admin > users and set your Pro commissions to 100 (if you use percent). You would be able to also use the Vendor Shipping in the same way the other vendors do.

I cannot confirm if you will need a second paypal account– but this is VERY likely. Paypal will typically throw errors if the paykey is the same as the admin account. If i were you, I would use a separate PayPal for your vendor account.

On my own marketplace I have chosen to sell on my own vendor account, rather than list as the admin in wp-admin>Products. We use Stripe for our marketplace, with the Stripe Commissions & Gateway plugin for WC Vendors https://www.wcvendors.com/product/stripe-commissions-gateway/.
We have an admin Stripe account that we use for the Stripe connect platform; we then use a different Stripe account for our Vendors account. They both deposit into the same bank account, though, and Stripe does not care.
I avoid ever using PayPal so unfortunately I cannot confirm that you’ll need two separate paypal account and/or bank accounts– please discuss this with PayPal so you can avoid any issues.

I chose this method so that I could list and sell and go through the same process as my vendors– it helps for administrating the site and making sure the experience is smooth– and also I am able to keep my marketplace earnings and product sales earnings better separated for accounting purposes. Essentially my marketplace is one business and my products are a different business. 😉

The best method for selling your own products on your marketplace ultimately will depend on your unique business– either method, the Amazon type or the eBay type is feasible while using WC Vendors and WC Vendors Pro.
