    Hi –

    I am getting ready to choose a payment gateway and am wondering which you recommend for companies in the US that will mostly attract US customers. My initial thought would be to use PayPal standard (no monthly fee) until I get some revenue coming in and then upgrade to PayPal Pro ($30 monthly fee), unless you strongly recommend PayPal Pro from the beginning or Stripe. What I like about PayPal is the name recognition and that many vendors already have PayPal accounts.

    Do you have a recommendation? Is PayPal standard OK? Is there anything else I need to know/choose to set up the payment gateway properly with WC Vendors Pro?

    I have Googled, and I have searched the forum, but didn’t find anything dealing with which payment gateway to use (sorry if I missed it!).

    Thank you very much!

    Most people in the U.S. use PayPal. Most tech people, more than general population, seem to be familiar with and/or use Stripe.

    However, I would advise in advance to read both companies Terms of Service to determine if products you’re offering are allowed. Otherwise, payment of Stripe gateway is a waste and PayPal is more strict. Not heard of PayPal Pro and though it will be nice when PayPal allows our site’s products, to have it’s simplicity, I am glad people can still type in their credit card info.

    For morality purposes, go with Stripe, but if you want more sales with familiarity of clicking a button, PayPal is probably most used.

    Here is updated System Report with MBString fixed. Also, Hostgator says that SOAP IS enabled on my VPS server, but it’s at a higher level (gateway?) and maybe the system report is reading at the lower level (my specific VPS server).

    @palicali
    There are factors unique to your business that you have to consider when choosing a payment gateway/processor.
    Although PayPal is ubiquitous, it is not the easiest gateway to work with by any means. Also, because PayPal is often used by smaller or sole proprietor businesses who do not have a payment processor, it *can* be seen as a bit amateur when your only payment gateway is PayPal.
    Stripe’s main limitation is that it is only able to be used by businesses in these countries; though you can accept customer payments from almost every currency and country in the world: https://stripe.com/global So your vendors would need to be located on one of the countries that Stripe supports, but your customers can be from nearly any country in the world. You also cannot make check(echeck) payments via Stripe.
    You might find that some people are not familiar with Stripe and are initially hesitant. But once they sign up, the process of signing up and receiving funds is so simple and straight-forward that many people think they made an error because is it so simple. 😉

    DO you want to pay your vendors immediately at checkout (have the instant split of funds)?
    If so, then I would recommended Stripe (our Stripe Commissions & Gateway plugin https://www.wcvendors.com/product/stripe-commissions-gateway/). PayPal Adaptive payments can do this, too- but I think Stripe does it better.

    If not, then you can use PayPalAadaptive + mass pay and do scheduled or manual payments to your vendors. Or- you can do manual payments to your vendors and use any WooCommerce compatible Gateway and pay your vendors however you wish (check, paypal, bank transfer, etc.). With our Stripe Commissions & Gateway plugin, you cannot do scheduled or mass/manual payments- only instant split/immediate payments.

    PayPal standard will not allow you to send masspay payments of commissions to your vendors. You need PayPal Adaptive payments + masspay to do that.
