What issues did you have with WPML?
The single thing I know of is the translation of the Pro Dashboard pages into multiple languages. We plan to work on that in the future, but the way it is written right now prevents the pro dashboard pages form being translated into more than one language. They can, however, be translated into one other language as far as I am aware.
We really have not worked with the Qtranlate, so I am sorry I have no further info on that plugin for you.
