    Hi,

    Hope you can help.

I have attempted to install Pro twice. Each time it looks OK but when I click on a Vendor link at the bottom of the page I get internal server error.

The first time I continued to click on links and the whole site stopped working. My host co said it looked like a database inconsistency was the problem. I deleted everything, uploaded my files and db from previous working version and tried again to install pro, again the same result. I have deactivated Pro before any more harm is done.

    Please advise.

    Regards, J

Internal Server Error — I’m assuming you searched. If you did, you’d see we ask EVERYONE with that problem to check the webservers error_log file. See what the error is. So, what is it?

    Hi Ben,

Are you able to make any sense of the log above and does it shed any light on what is going wrong?

    All assistance gratefully accepted,

    John

    Hi John,

I can see you’re running your website on a Windows IIS server. WordPress and a lot of plugins (probably including ours) will have issues on this platform. There are a lot of quirks to get and keep WordPress running well on such a platform. I would highly recommend moving to a *nix based web host if you possibly can. Yes you can install WordPress on IIS but I have yet to see a site run well on this.

I’ll do what I can do to interpret your log as its coming from IIS and I don’t know what the fields in the log represent. So i’m making some assumptions. I see that you’re getting a 500 on the seller page. Have you saved your permalinks after activating Pro? What are your permalinks set to? Is the IIS server running a rewrite module at all?

    cheers,

    Jamie.

    Hi Jamie,

I was wondering if you had chance to have a look over this one as yet?

    Kind regards,

    Hi John,

I’ll be taking a look tomorrow. There is only so much testing I can do as I don’t have a windows environment to do any testing. You’re the first person I’ve heard that is successfully running wordpress and woo on IIS. In the past PHP and IIS have never played well for me.

    cheers,

    Jamie.

    Hi Jamie,

    Thanks, I appreciate it.

Regarding IIS and wp etc, I have found that in the last number of years it makes no difference at all, I suppose host cos have upped their game and as time goes by more and more anomalies are ironed out. We have a good number of sites all on IIS and they work a treat. We are looking forward to giving WC Vendors a spin, as its a logical step for us as we work with many artisans as it is.

    Have a nice evening, John

    Hi John,

During my debugging I managed to error 500 the entire site. Can you disable pro again for me (you’ll have to rename the folder for wordpress to disable it). Also could you possibly give me FTP access so I can continue debugging. The only thing I have been able to confirm is yes it is indeed something in pro. Now I need to function by function debug pro to see what is killing it.

    cheers,

    Jamie.

    Thanks John,

I’ll continue my debugging and let you know. Please note this will take a while but I am working on it.

    Hi John,

There is something really weird going on with that server. I’m unable to rename folders. I can save and edit files. I can create new folders but cannot rename. I’ve managed to 500 the site again and even commenting out the primary class file so nothing loads still gives a 500. Do you have a way I can access log files too?

    cheers,

    jamie.

    Hi John,

Something other than wordpress is causing an error 500. I have tried to recover this but I think it is IIS messing up. I tried renaming our plugin, then the plugins dir, disabling all plugins via the database and then finally changing the database password in wp-config to stop the system from even connecting to the database. The 500 error continues. Are you able to get your host to investigate if the re-write module has any issues and if the configuration for this has a problem?

    cheers,

    Jamie.

    Hi Jamie,

Setting (‘WP_DEBUG’, true); back to (‘WP_DEBUG’, false); and back again cleared it.

I ran a test on a purchase and received error 500

“Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 (Internal Server Error)” – https://levelcoaching.co/checkout/?wc-ajax=checkout Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 (Internal Server Error)

I checked my theme, every setting, vendor settings, deactivated plug ins not related to the subscription purchase

    This happens with every product

    Hi @johnhendley

I’ve spent more time trying to debug this without success. Unfortunately I don’t have any microsoft certifications to understand why this is breaking either. I spoke to some of the people within the wordpress community who have worked with IIS and they recommended against using IIS for complex WP sites. There are still open trac tickets with wordpress core related to IIS that have not been resolved. I’m not sure if these are related but need to be taken into account. I’ve been doing research to see if I can find out why this is happening and all I can find is people mentioning server configuration issues which is related to your hosting company. Can you contact them regarding these issues and see if they have any other reports of error 500’s with wordpress sites and how they resolved them?

    cheers,

    jamie.

    Hi Jamie,

    Thanks for your efforts.

I think your trouble shooting efforts were stopped due to the wp debug true causing a problem. Are there any things you have to un-do to get it back to its original state as when I try PRO now it generates the 500 error on the home page, where previously the home page rendered and I needed to click on a vendor link to generate the error.

    Thanks in advance,

    Kind regards,
    John

    Hi Jamie,

This is the reply I got back from the host co.

“Although we do see 500 errors with other WordPress sites this is just a generic error number and so does not necessarily mean they are facing the same issues.

When we see a 500 error the first course of action is to obtain the actual error that is causing the site to fail. This will usually be unique each time we face this issue.

In this instance it was the following errors caused by a plugin:

PHP Strict Standards: Non-static method IS_IU_Import_Users::init() should not be called statically in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\artfullexpression.co.uk\httpdocs\wp-content\plugins\import-users-from-csv\import-users-from-csv.php on line 374
PHP Strict Standards: call_user_func_array() expects parameter 1 to be a valid callback, non-static method IS_IU_Import_Users::process_csv() should not be called statically in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\artfullexpression.co.uk\httpdocs\wp-includes\plugin.php on line 524

We know the plugin in responsible because disabling it makes the site work again.”

Please advise if this helps, or if we have reached the end of the line…

    Kind regards,

    John

PS – Please see message above regarding any un-dos that may be required. Ta, J

    Hi John,

Rolled back the only thing I did. You can always just re-install pro this was the only thing i was messing around with + the debug in config.

Now when I go to load the URL it is redirecting me to another company website?

    cheers,

    jamie.

    Hi Jamie,

    Thanks for that.

The good news is that Pro is working now (uninstalling it and reinstalling it seemed to fix it, I know ……), bar one issue I have found.

When a vendor adds a new product, the product is added but the screen returns our old friend 500, url displayed is http://artfullexpression.co.uk/dashboard/product/edit/

    Have your seen this before?

    Cheers, John

PS – I also get 3 emails letting me know a new product has been added by a vendor, but that is the least of my problems!

Are you still using the IIS?
What does your error_log say following the vendor listing the product?
