    Nothing happens anymore after someone goes to checkout with PayPal, no errors no nothing, it just takes the user back to the PayPal homepage. What has happened?

    Logged in with PayPal and tried again now it redirected to PayPal checkout page. This is too bad for conversions. It will only work if the user is already logged in through PayPal, if they are not it will only redirect them to the PayPal homepage on checkout.

    Is anybody else experiencing this? When I checkout with a product while not being logged in to PayPal it will only redirect me to the PayPal.com homepage like the checkout never happened..

    @ben @fervous anyone jesus

    Same, posted about this 2 days ago and have not gotten any answers from support.

    It used to work just fine. I tried it with another Vendor’s products and it worked, but for certain Vendors it won’t.

    Has never worked for me. This issue has drained me of so much time and energy trying to get to work. All I ever get is PP homepage. All my settings are correct, checked them over and over. Users simply can’t check out, beyond frustrated with this.

    Nothing has changed with PayPal Adaptive Payments. When did it work last? What did you change since then?

    @ben nothing much, I added a character output with the help of Anna to the shop description if you’re referring to plugin changes. Also updated a few plugins recently like WooCommerce and that’s all.

    It never used to be like this

    I just noticed this as well!! Same thing, checkout just goes to the PayPal homepage.
    Is it anything to do with this?

    Hello,
    If each of your could please provide us with your WooCommerce System Status in a reply, that will be helpful to us so we can start looking for some commonalities.

    @saturn015
    @ebookgiant @chrisrye @foltbolt

    Has anything updated?
    Any plugins?
    Any theme updates?

    Have each of your tried testing transactions with all plugins except WooCommerce, WC Vendors and WC Vendors Pro deactivated; as well as while using the Storefront theme?

    We need to find the common denominator here— perhaps a theme or one of the popular plugins that you are all using updated.

    Provided my system status here https://www.wcvendors.com/help/topic/paypal-checkout-going-to-pp-homepage/

    I just took my marketplace out of the sandbox (was working properly there). Went into live environment and PP just went to homepage during checkout right off the bat.

    Yes, I tested this with only the Woocommerce, WCVFree, WCVPro plugins activated and using the Storefront theme.
    I also tried rolling back Woocommerce a few versions to 2.6.9 and it still does the same thing.

    I tested this on standard cPanel hosting as well as a site using Amazon ec2. Both the same.

    This was working fine a few weeks ago, seems like this is something PayPal has changed.

    If you are not logged into PayPal the checkout page gets redirected to the PayPal home page.
    I did notice that if you then click the back button it does go back to the PayPal checkout page.

    Hi everyone,

    Same here for couple of days.
    I have contacted paypal with this issue. They are testing their part right now.
    What I have figured out so far: it is a ‘pattern’ such as every second purchase is successful.
    Add any product to the basket, go to the cart page, click on place order button. One time it’s navigates you to the basic paypal opening page (https://www.paypal.com/), then if you go back using the ‘back’ button of your browser, you are again on the shop’s cart page. It refreshes automatically. Click again to the ‘place order’ button…and everything is just fine.
    But if you do not place the order instead go back to the cart page again, it comes the first version, such as paypal opening page…then back and you are able to shop…etc…etc…
    again and again.

    Have any of you tested with Storefront, WooCommerce, WC Vendors Free/Pro activated ONLY to test? Try to ensure a conflicting plugin didnt screw something up on your sites? No code has changed for PayPal Adaptive Payments…… And thousands of you use it, but we only have a half dozen reports of an issue. Seems so far the only common thing is you all use Social marketplace. Different versions of WooCommerce .11 and .12 I see in there so that’s probably not it. What Anna is trying to do is figure out what you changed, or what is common between all of you so she can help. The faster you guys can reply, and NOT LINK TO OTHER THREADS is handy. Try to keep everything in one place to make the info for one problem centralized instead of scattered. We’ll figure out what’s up just need the data!

    Trust me, not much has changed without plugin updates from WooCommerce. This just started happening, sometimes it works, sometimes it takes the user to the PayPal homepage. There has been plenty of complaints from this..

    If you actually bothered to read my above post you will see that I did test it with storefront, woo, wcv, wcvpro only.

    Anyway, I fixed it myself by doing the following.

    In the PayPal docs it mentions the url to use as: https://www.paypal.com/webscr?cmd=
    and not what WCV uses: https://www.paypal.com/webscr&cmd=

    WCV uses a “&” in the paypal url instead of a “?”.

    I changed the paypal url in WCV to use a “?” in the following file (right at the bottom):
    wc-vendors/classes/gateways/PayPal_AdvPayments/paypal_ap.php

    When I did this it solved the problem for me.

    I get the same thing.

    Logged into to paypal – payment works
    Logged out of paypal – sends to paypal homepage

    This appeared in the last couple of days. It thought it was a temporary glitch but it has continued to be a problem.

    I’m going to try what @saturn015 has done to see if that works
    “I changed the paypal url in WCV to use a “?” in the following file (right at the bottom):
    wc-vendors/classes/gateways/PayPal_AdvPayments/paypal_ap.php”

    You sir are a good person. Someone decided to delete my posts because they felt like blaming our websites for their own mistakes. Anyways THE SOLUTION IS PEOPLE IS TWO POSTS ABOVE MINE!

    plugins>wc-vendors>classes>gateways>PayPal_AdvPayments>paypal_ap.php

    Search “https://www.paypal.com/webscr&cmd=” and replace the “&” with “?” and it should work!

    All credits go to the above user.

    What @saturn015 Saturn015 posted worked for me on my development server! and the paypal payment works just as it did.

    “I changed the paypal url in WCV to use a “?” in the following file (right at the bottom):
    wc-vendors/classes/gateways/PayPal_AdvPayments/paypal_ap.php”

    Saturn015….question for you. did you change BOTH of the “&” to a “?”. see my attached screenshot. I did and paypal works BUT it paypal screen seems to do some kind of quick refresh upon the initial redirect before allowing me to make the payment (log in screen of paypal).

    @ben I’m assuming if this is the fix that a patch will be released?

    I’m sorry for lashing out on you @ben. I guess losing a few customers does that but nonetheless the issue is resolved an onwards we go.

    @thrivinglocally
    One link is for the Sandbox mode and the other is for the live mode. You can change both of them if you want, that’s what I did.

    Hello,

    Looking into this now. Just an FYI I haven’t touched this part of our code since June of 2016. This would lead me to believe that PayPal has decided to start FINALLY migrating their shit to the braintree infrastructure, silently. We as developers get no notification when they change things so it is hard to track. @saturn015 it looks like your fix is the correct one moving forward with the AP. We will need to re-write this once they kill off the old adaptive payment system. Which will be bad as the new system is only available in the USA.

    I’ll do some testing and then push out a fix when I can.

    cheers,

    Jamie.

    @fervous thanks for that Anna. I noticed that too but everything seems to work fine. what should that be set to?

    I just did a quick search of the knowledgebase but did not see anything about the shop base setting.

    @digitalchild What will happen when they do that, for us that are based out of the U.S?

    We’re all screwed. There is no alternative, but I’m always looking out for options. Stripe is one. They did say they have no intention in the ‘near future’ of completely removing the existing offerings when I spoke to Paypal at WooConf #16 in Austin last year. When I asked what ‘near future’ was they said at least a couple of years.

    cheers,

    Jamie.

    That’s your marketplace/woocommerce/all items base page. Your Product Archives.
    go to wp admin > woocommerce > settings > products > display

    Shop Page

    The base page can also be used in your product permalinks.

    @digitalchild Jamie,

    Would this potentially mean that (non-US) customers could not split up cart payments between multiple vendors in the shame shopping cart.

    So we would have to restrict it to one vendor per cart then?

    @fervous
    Anna thanks for that feedback on the shop page setting. I will look into it further but when I change that setting to me homepage then my homepage lost its slider. So I put the setting back to empty and I’m back to normal. Perhaps it is something my custom theme developer coded around?

    Stripe is a good option but losing PayPal is really bad. Damn, oh well, **** them and their fees which they won’t be getting more of when they drop it.

    Most other big marketplaces have created their own internal currency (ala theme forest) or they payout their vendors with a different system. Not many marketplaces actually support instant payout a lot are on weekly/monthly/minimum withdrawal payout systems.

    cheers,

    Jamie.

    @digitalchild

    I don’t mind doing the latter and create an internal currency. I just feel like there are less liabilities when you’re not holding other people’s money especially when it comes to tax agencies (IRS etc), collecting information and whatnot. I might be wrong but alot of people like being paid instantly too. It’s something I get asked about from time to time by potential customers.

    I’d probably move on to just using Stripe for Instant Payouts, or change the entire structure. Either way, we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.

    I applied this fix and it does indeed work now, nice job @saturnO15. No more PP homepage.

    Question though…by default it opens the “Pay by credit card” section instead of the Log into PP section. Is it doing that for others as well? I’d prefer it defaults on the PP login page.

    I just updated my wc vendors and now it is messing up again. Certain products work some dont. I have no clue what is going on. I did the fix last night and it worked fine. Updated to the latest version of wc vendors and now it is broke again, i obviously made the same change i did last night but did not have the same effect.

    Thanks

    Hi there,
    The magic with the ‘&’ to ‘?’ worked well for me so far.
    Thank you 🙂
    …when WC Vendors will have an ‘official’ statement regarding this issue I’ll be happy to read it.
    What is strange for me ( I am just a simple user, not a developer like you guys) that it looks like it has affected only some of the shops not all of them…
    Maybe WC Vendors can figure out something, I mean what we have in common in our settings…etc..but fingers crossed it was just the ‘&’
    🙂
    Thanks again for this forum and all your help!

    Hi guys, here’s the official answer from PayPal.
    I contacted them with the issue last week, then again yesterday, mentioning @saturnO15 ‘s solution:

    “Based on the initial investigation by our engineers, the issue is being caused due to a recent system update done at PayPal’s end. It is identified that the error is occurring if you are passing the “&” in the Checkout URL instead of ” ? “.

    As workaround yes, modifying the URL to use “? ” does seem to resolve the issue. You may proceed to make the changes. Nevertheless, our engineers are still investigating if it possible to make a rollback on the system update to ensure the URL containing “&” would be usable. I’ll keep you posted on new updates once available.

    I hope this helps. Thank you

    Thank you so much @saturn015! I can breath again – phew!

    @chrisrye
    I’m guessing there is a way to set a default payment method because:
    In Wp-admin > Woocomerce > Settings > Checkout there is a ‘Set Default Payment Method’. No idea how this works though sorry, I’m guessing we add something to the checkout url somewhere – @DigitalChild would be able to help if he has a minute 🙂

    I’m super worried about the new Paypal Adaptive Payments being withdrawn and replace with something that only works in USA, even if it is a few years away (I mean why on earth would they do that – the world is a big place and they are greedy buggers!).

    My Vendors really dislike Stripe, because in the UK it takes 7 days for Stripe to transfer their money into their accounts meaning they can’t afford the materials to make their orders. Also all my vendors are disabled or chronically ill and they super struggle with setting Stripe up (because it’s something new and unknown) and I’m losing new vendors because of the fear around it (I do obviously have a help guide and video that talks them through all the fields).

    Would be interested in hearing from anyone who is using other alternatives…. is there an alternative that works seamlessly with WCVendors?

    Thank you,

    Karen

    In the end this one was pretty easy.

    PayPal fucked you all by screwing up their API servers URLs. Nothing more, nothing less, paypal fucked you. There’s no nice language for this. Their engineers screwed up their services. They broke your websites. We fixed it, of course, as we always have with PayPal over the years.

    What can you do about it? Call them and tell them to stop sucking. The only alternative for instant payments is Stripe. 🙂

    Hi all,

    As a person based in Seoul running a site for global customers, the only available global payment gateway I can rely on is Paypal. Stripe is not launched here yet and since Korean government has ridiculously protective regulations for local payment gateways, I don’t believe Stripe will be available here anytime soon. So, in case Paypal adaptive becomes only available in the U.S, does that mean only the customers in the U.S can use the system ? or will it just completely not work for an website operator based out of the States? In either case, if my vendors are ok with receiving weekly/monthly payment, will I still be able to use the standard Paypal and pay the vendors manually?

    #54126
    Anna
    Member

    @elsa
    IF, and I mean *IF* that were to happen, and PayPal Adaptive Payments is only able to be used in the US… then yes, you could still pay your vendors manually through regular paypal. *IF* this were to occur, only the adaptive payments options INSTANT or SCHEDULED would be affected, so you would then need to switch to MANUAL manually pay with paypal.

    I know that Jamie is keeping an eye on this, and WC Vendors DOES plan on adding more payment extensions/integrations in the future so that there are more options for our users.
