    Thank you, Ben! The links you provided are so useful! I found there some more customizations I wanted to make. I’ll try them to see if they work for me. For now I only tried the solution I found here for adding more tabs to the tab menu on the dashboard page:

    https://gist.github.com/digitalchild/a6c4443a1bdf5a89db5b

    Did I find the right one?

    I tried it and it worked as far as adding a new tab in the menu, but it’s adding the new tabs at the end of the list, just before “View Store” and I really would need to order the tabs in some other way. For example, I’d like to add the new tab just after the “Dashboard” tab. This is not possible? Also is it only possible to add links to other pages? Not actual tabs where to add content?

    Oh, and I forgot to ask something related to my previous question: do I have to do the same for the other old pages from the free plugin: Orders and Settings? I mean do I have to keep them even if I don’t use them (because there are now new tabs including their information), rename them and then set noindex/nofollow for those pages?

    Don’t worry, you can answer when you have the time. I’m not in a rush right now, actually it’s late here and I need to go to sleep soon. πŸ™‚

    Thank you for your suggestion! That’s what I’m going to do regarding the old dashboard.

    Is there a way I could customize the menu tabs on the PRO dashboard page? (The one that includes: Dasboard, Products, Orders, Settings, Ratings and View Store)

    Because it seems I can’t find the template to customize it, even though I found the template (quick-links.php) to customize the button links that appear under the menu tabs. Those were easy, but I still can’t find how to customize the menu tabs. I want to add some new tabs or at least links to other pages that look like tabs.

    Ok, I got it! So this is the pattern now for the variables.

    I’ll continue testing and if I have more questions I’ll ask. For now I only have the question if the old dashboard page must remain on the site (since it can still be accessed if you write its Url, even though the new dashboard page is now set).

    I also will have some suggestions that I’ll post in the future requests section, after some more testing.

    Thank you, Ben!

    But it seems like the variables available in the vendor-main-header.php template can’t be used in the store-header.php template, right?
    * $vendor_id
    * $shop_name
    * $shop_description
    * $seller_info
    * $vendor_email
    * $vendor_login
    * $vendor_shop_link

    Thank you, Jamie!

    Unfortunately, it seems the developer is still confused:

    “In wc vendor notofication email. I want to appand a content and for this I have found many filters to add content before and after.

    But I want to add the different content for different vendor and I can’t get vendor ID in any filter. I mean how we can get the id of vendor user which notification email is being send ?

    like for vendor1 I want to add content like current vendor informations.”

    Thank you, Ben!

    I conveyed the message, but it seems there is still confusion, the developer said this:
    “yes I know the these action but from these action we can’t find the vendor id whom we send email, I can’t get vendor id here so I can’t add different content to different vendor in email.”

    I must tell you that I also struggled with this error for days and didn’t know what to do about it or what was causing it.

    Until I started to deactivate plugins and I realized it’s because of WC Vendors and then I found this topic and realized it was because I deleted the “Orders” and “Shop Settings” pages… I couldn’t believe it was just this! But glad it was not some bigger issue.

    I deleted the pages because I don’t want to allow vendors to change settings and I didn’t find the “Orders” page was showing much new informations and it seemed redundant so I just thought I wouldn’t need them and deleted them.

    It’s good it’s solved now.

    Hi Quentin!

    This is what I used:

    https://gist.github.com/anonymous/c5442ba7f826a41d63f7

    This only shows the vendor’s name with a link to the vendor’s shop.

    I was intending to also add a photo and other details to display in the search results, but I didn’t do it because in the meantime I changed my approach and added custom fields in the user profile and use those instead.

    I hope this helps to get you started!

    Ok, I understand now what you meant.

    Now, on another subject, I would like to hire you for some custom work for our site (I saw that you offer these kind of services too.)

    I created a little plugin to add custom fields in the user profile. (I posted something regarding this here: https://www.wcvendors.com/help/topic/adding-a-custom-fields-on-wc-vendors-is-not-showing-on-wordpress/)

    I need to put a search form on the homepage with some dropdowns of the values of the custom fields and, depending on what the visitors choose, a page displaying search results should show up – the search results will be vendors (with their shop name and some other information from their user profiles). – for this I would like to hire you.

    I would have liked to do this myself to learn, but it seems it’s too much above my level.
    (I only know vaguely that I would need to use the WP_User_Query class, but I’m sure it’s far more than that.)

    Hi Ben,

    Thank you.

    I’m sorry, but I’m not sure exactly what you’re referring to by: “either or both”? (And I understand that what you say it’s not something set in stone.)

    In any case, maybe Jamie could take into account this kind of situation when developing, because it’s very possible that some people would need no sidebar or a different sidebar on the vendor’s page than the one on the shop page.

    Or when you don’t need a sidebar on the vendor page it is very likely you will still need one on the shop page, for example the most common is to use filters in the shop page sidebar, to refine the list of products. But if the same sidebar (with filters) were to appear on the vendor page it would become irrelevant depending on the setting you have on the vendor page (for example I have tabs with different information and I display the products of that vendor in one of the tabs, it’s strange to have the sidebar with filters on that page since there are some criteria that don’t apply to the products of that vendor, and another reason would be that I have many tabs and don’t have place for a sidebar on the page).

    Regarding the shop pages, I had not much thought about using them before, but a person that wants to help me with marketing through Adwords campaigns (after we launch) said that I need to have landing pages for different categories of products to link to (that’s why I now have to use category/archive pages for products).

    And it seems I’ll also have to have some kind of archive pages for vendors (but I don’t kow yet how am I going to build these).

    Ok, I was about to write to them and I realized I will have to explain them a bit how the vendor shop page is generated.

    So, it uses archive-product.php to display the vendor shop pages? Is this the correct way of explaining?

    Also, I saw in another thread that you wrote: “We’ll be moving the vendor pages out of archive-product.php for the Pro version. We have not begun that part yet.”

    So, in the PRO, the vendor page will not be generated using archive-product.php anymore? How will the new way work with the sidebars? It will still display the sidebar that is set for the shop page? Or we will be able to choose a different sidebar than the shop page or no sidebar at all for the vendor page (while the shop sidebar will still display on the category/archive pages)? Will this situation be possible in the new way of generating vendor pages?

    Hi,

    I followed all links you provided and, after reading the tutorials there and also combining with your snippets of code, I put togheter this:

    It works: the fields appear in the user profiles and when I enter something in the fields the information is saved correctly in the database (in the usermeta table), but after entering the text in the field and saving the modifications, the information I entered disappears from the field in the user profile, like I didn’t enter anything yet (even though, like I said before, in the database the information appears associated with the correct user).

    It’s confusing because I can’t know for sure if I filled in the fields or if they are saved correctly, unless I go into the database to check it.

    Is there something I am missing in the code?

    Ups, I forgot how to paste in the code from github to show here…

    The problem is that when I comment out the line:

    //do_action(‘woocommerce_after_main_content’);

    Then the content of the sidebar dissappears from the sidebar, but the space where the sidebar should be still remains as a blank space. I need to remove that space too so that the content of the page taakes up all space.

    And if I also comment out the line:

    //do_action(‘woocommerce_sidebar’);

    Then not only the page content, but also the footer gets a blank space where the sidebar should be, like if the sidebar was prolonged in the footer too (which is not the case).

    I really need to not have any sidebar on the vendor shop page because I designed the content to take up all space on the page, so using a sidebar would make everything look squeezed. And at the same time I need to have a sidebar on the page where the categories archives display because I need to place there some filters for the list of products that would appear there.

    So, seeing that commenting out the two actions mentioned above doesn’t remove the blank space, I was thinking if there was another file I would have to modify for this?

    in reply to: How to remove the product list from the vendor's page #3533

    Yes, it works! πŸ˜€ But do you know how can I not display the sidebar on the vendor’s page? (and only display it in other product archives, such as when I display products in a certain category, I’ll need a sidebar there where I’ll put filters to sort through products, so I need to keep the sidebar on other archives).

    I noticed there’s also some code regarding the sidebar in the archive-product.php file and I tried to apply to it the same condition as to the product loop and the contents of the sidebar don’t show anymore on the vendor page, but the area where the sidebar should be still shows up as a blank space and I want to remove that too.

    Do I have to change something in other file for this?

    Hi Ben,

    I’m eagerly waiting for the PRO!:D But in the meanwhile… I customized the main.php with tabs where I put the products. And now I should place a condition – to check if the page is for a vendor’s page – in archive-product.php?

    Actually I think I should only display the product loop if the page is not for a vendor. (Because the “else” would be to display tabs when it is a vendor’s page, but I put the tabs in main.php)

    Is the following the correct code for checking if it’s a vendor’s page in this situation?

    <?php
    $vendor_shop = urldecode( get_query_var( 'vendor_shop' ) );
    $vendor_id = WCV_Vendors::get_vendor_id( $vendor_shop );
    if ( $vendor_id )
    // here should go the code for the product loop
    ?>

    Hey everyone,

    This is the answer of Table Rate Shipping’s author:
    “They are still moving forward [the plans for the integration with WC Vendors], but not so much in the way the other user was hoping. The plugin will still perform as it does now but just with the added column. I’m afraid the ability for each vendor to have their own table just isn’t possible right now, but perhaps sometime after 4.0 it will be. Just not now I am afraid, the plugin is not built for that type of compatibility just yet.”

    It seems I haven’t provided you yet with the link to the thread where the discussion with the author takes place. It’s here:

    Hi!

    Thank you for your answers, Ben and Jamie!

    Yes, Jamie, until now I also customized links.php from the “dashboard” folder and it was ok.

    β€œHEY THIS IS A TEST” didn’t how up, even though I double-checked and there’s no typo in the filename or path of the file.

    Moreover, even when I made changes directly in the vendor-main-header.php file from the WC Vendors plugin (directly in the plugin’s folder) nothing showed up.

    I’m thinking my theme’s templates (it also has a archive-product.php template) are probably the only ones taken into account and yours ignored.

    Only when I change something there or in the original archive-product.php from the woocommerce plugin, only then my changes show up. (Of course, I only change these files after copying them into my child-theme folder, but they work anyway.)

    I’ll try to investigate some more and I’ll probably be back after the holidays if still in trouble. But I wanted you to know what I found out until now while testing.

    Thank you so much for all your answers and I wish you Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! And the best of luck going forward with your PRO release of this plugin! πŸ™‚

    Hi Ben!

    Thank you for your answers! I followed the instructions, but my customizations don’t appear..:(

    I used vendor-main-header.php because I want to customize the vendor’s shop page.

    Even if I remove the code regarding shop name and shop description, nothing changes on the page.

    I am talking about this code:

    <h1><?php echo $shop_name; ?></h1>
    <div class=”wcv_shop_description”>
    <?php echo $shop_description; ?>
    </div>

    When I remove this the shop name and the description should not appear at all on the page right?

    (I am using this just an example, there are other customizations I will do.)

    Yahoooo! Much awaited release! I came today to ask you something specific about the customization of the vendor’s page (I need to take the shop description and put it in a tab – I have more tabs with information – and I also need to remove the list of products that it’s automatically shown, because I placed the products into a tab and now it’s redundant, but I was confused by the way I should go about to do this as it is right now).

    I guess I’ll just have to wait for this release and see then if I have more questions. Maybe I’ll be able to do these things easier then. Hopefully.

    Hi guys,

    I received an answer from the Table Rate Shipping author saying:

    “I am still working out the plans. I had an extended holiday last week but I am back now and hashing out a plan. It may take a little bit of effort however because I want to eliminate the need for you to divide your products by shipping class and vendor. That seems redundant and a waste of any admin’s time, so I plan right now to have it all built in to the table.”

    That’s all for now, but it’s good to have a message from the author. πŸ™‚

    Hi Ben,

    I sent your answer to the author of Table Rate Shipping earlier today and he (or she) said that also sent you an email with some questions, especially regarding how would his plugin be able to know which shipping classes go to the correct vendor. I really hope things will work out and it will not be too difficult for the developer to add these changes and we’ll be able to use the two awesome plugins together! πŸ˜€

    ALso, thank you for the explanations regarding the release date. I can only wish you that you have enough time to work on the PRO version and that everything goes smooth!

    Hi Ben,

    Yes, it took me awhile to write everything.:) Since you asked for as many details I can give.:P
    And of course, I don’t want to hinder your work for the PRO version since I also need the features you want to include there so if I could help to release it faster I’d do it (but I’m not on that level of coding, unfortunately..).

    But if you could include the compatibility with this shipping plugin (even if it’s in the PRO version), I think it would still be ok.

    Just that since it might take some time until the release of the much awaited PRO version and because I find the shipping part more basic/needed than the rest, I have to ask this: would you add it faster, maybe in the base version, if I were to pay for adding this feature (of course, if the cost of its implementation would fall within our budget)?

    Also, to clarify this: you said that the Pro version of the plugin will be released in “Q1-2015” -> Does Q1 mean the first quarter of 2015? That’s what got me confused. Then that could also mean late March, right? And anyway, as I can understand it, it’s just an estimate and it could even exceed the first quarter of the year?

    I’m asking this in order to realistically plan the release of my own site and ponder if I should just wait for the PRO version or if I need to find some other solutions or tweak our concept a little bit for the things that don’t work right now (like this shipping issue) to use until the release of the PRO. (You see, our target release date will likely be one week before Valentine’s and that’s why I was wondering).

    Also, if we are on this subject: will the PRO version have frontend submission of products from the first release? Because I am also contemplating if I should wait for the PRO for this feature or just buy User Frontend and use it in the meanwhile…

    Anyway, I’ll send the plugin author your email address and I hope it will turn out to be easier than we thought to make it work, hopefully πŸ™‚

    Have a nice start of the week! πŸ™‚

    Yes, I had the feeling I was close so it was frustrating to not be able to complete this. But I did it, using your instructions!

    I’m not sure if this is exactly what you had in mind, but what I did was use function get_user_by() like this:

    $user_info = get_user_by( ‘id’, $user_id );

    So $shop_link became like this:

    $shop_link = site_url( $pv_perm.$user_info->user_nicename );

    Did I find the right answer?

    Using user_login or display_name instead of user_nicename would also work, but the link would have % instead of spaces for the vendors that have more names with spaces like: My vendor name. I need it to become: my-vendor-name in the link (which works using user_nicename), but if I use user_login it is displayed as my%vendor%name

    Also, I think I could have achieved the same using the function: get_userdata($userid);

    I know for you it’s probably obvious, but I am a person that didn’t even understand the concept of hooks a week ago. I actually learned about hooks and other basic stuff during the weekend. πŸ˜› And today I learned about these functions.

    It would be nice if in the future I could actually code some functionality myself.

    Thank you for all your answers and for being patient with me,

    Wow, you actually looked it up! Yes, exactly, I changed the “author” word in line 273 of usertags.php. But it still doesn’t work.

    And yes! This is the way he generates the link: esc_url( get_author_posts_url( $user_id ) )

    Well, the first thing I did was to ask the plugin’s author and he said: using a filter (ut_tepmplate_content) and he provided the piece of code I pasted in my previous post, under the name “original code”.

    I would just have to put the code for forming the link on this line:

    ' . get_the_author_meta( 'display_name', $user_id ) . '

    Instead of the “#”.

    But I guessed that the way links are formed is related to the vendors part. I figured you would know best how to obtain data regarding a certain vendor.

    In the shortcode you provided I noticed that you formed the link using this variable:

    $shop_link = site_url($pv_perm.$vendor->pv_shop_slug );

    $pv_perm works for me. But I am having difficulty obtaining $vendor->pv_shop_slug

    And I guessed I should somehow obtain it from $user_id since it’s the only parameter/argument received from the main plugin that could offer information related to which vendor it is displaying.

    I sure hope it does not cause conflicts.. :-S

    Reason why I chose User Tags:

    Yes, I know the plugin is not that “mainstream”, let’s say. πŸ˜€ But I found it very useful because it allowed me to add taxonomies for vendors (well, it creates taxonomies for all users, but I only use them for vendor users).

    So, for example, I create taxonomies for: City, Vendor Category (ex: vendors that sell clothes for Man, for Woman or for Children) and Shipping option (vendors that have a delivery service and others that only have pickup option).

    Then I tag each vendor user with his City, Vendor Category and Shipping option and I use those taxonomies in a Search&Filter plugin. That plugin helps me generate a search form using taxonomies as fields and like that I can filter vendors by different criteria.

    Cause I have to build a complex search form on the homepage. Yeah, I know, I have a complicated task.. But I found the solution described above to be the most simple. Seems easier than coding this functionality myself. Of course, if someone knows of a easier or better solution, by all means, please share! πŸ˜€

    Hi Ben,

    Yes, that seems really easy so I also tried your suggestion (to just modify the slug in the plugin), I searched in every file of the plugin for the word “author” and I found it only once and replaced it, but it doesn’t change the links that appear in the list of search results..I asked the developer of the plugin about it and I am waiting for the answer.

    But is there a way I could obtain $vendor->pv_shop_slug from/using $user_id? That way I could surely form the links.

    Hi Ben,

    Thank you for your instructions!

    Ok, I made an account on GitHub! I always heard about GitHub, but never really knew what was about so I feel I learned something new today. πŸ˜€

    So, the original code received from the author of “User Tags” plugin is this one:
    https://gist.github.com/temperami/a9d7047c337d14b1fbe8

    And the one I modified, including the code from WC Vendors shortcode is:
    https://gist.github.com/temperami/aab4601c040982cebfa5

    And if it helps with something, this is the code of the filter hook in the “User Tags” plugin:

    Thank you,

    PS: the <br/> , <p></p> , &lt and &gt that clutter the code have been added after I posted the message on the forums. They were not in the original code. I don’t know why that happens. It makes it hard to read..

    Sorry Ben, I was saying that gcsky (the original poster of the question) could try to use Nav Menu Roles, I know you don’t need it. πŸ™‚ I just gave an example of a plugin that I used and worked for me for this situation. Because you mentioned about the existence of conditional menu plugins.

    If I understand correctly, you want to show the Vendor Dashboard in your menu only to logged-in vendor users, right?

    Try using Nav Menu Roles, for example. You can find it on WordPress.org.

    Hi! Thank you so much Ben and Jamie for your answers and for planning to add such useful shortcodes!

    I tried your code, Ben, and it still doesn’t display the vendor list in columns, but reading what you wrote in previous posts it’s probabily my theme, right?

    Regarding the discussion with torb (Also thank you very much, torb, for replying to my queastion!!), he or she said that used Advanced Custom Fields to add fields such as a profile picture to display it in the list of vendors, instead of the avatar picture. At least that’s how I understood it.

    I am also aware of the topic you linked to, Ben. Thank you for that solution! So there’s no problem to create text fields and dispay them to the user profile.

    I think that for torb and me the problem resides in creating fields to upload pictures and using the stored information to display it where we need it.

    Actually, I think torb was adding fields to the user profile, in the admin backmenu, not on the shop settings page.

    But I also tried to create a field for uploading a picture on the shop settings page (like a logo or a profile picture for the vendor), using the method outlined in the topic: https://www.wcvendors.com/help/topic/how-to-add-custom-field-on-vendor-shop-setting/

    I searched information on doing this for pictures, but it seems creating a field for uploading a picture is a bit tricky. Or am I mistaken?

    I think that’s why torb used Advanced Custom Fields.

    And also, if we manage to create a field to store profile pictures, how do we display them instead of the avatar picture in the list of vendors? I think we have to replace this in the code:

    get_avatar($vendor->ID, 200)

    Thank you and sorry for any confusion!

    Indeed, this is a great addition! Thank you, Ben, for creating this shortcode!

    @sunay
    – did you find out how to display the list in columns?

    @torb
    – Did you use Advanced Custom Fields to add information to the User Profile page to fill it there for each vendor? And did you find a way to display the extra information?

    Hi Michael,

    This site seems to be built using the Room 09 theme: http://artedoencontro.com/

    This was posted by the person that started the following topic, regarding a shipping solution: https://www.wcvendors.com/help/topic/solution-shipping-per-vendor/

    I am also interested in using Room09 and I noticed.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Greg,

    Interesting solution. There were many questions about this topic on the forums, but I think this is the first solution I’ve seen.

    I happen to be looking for a delivery solution myself. I already tried one plugin I came across that claimed to have the ability to set different rates per vendor and calculate the shipping taking them into account, but unfortunately it was all a mess after all, couldn’t use it. (Even though I asked specific pre-sale questions before buying..) I was planning to share it with you guys if it were to work, but I won’t even mention it since it’s not suitable for a marketplace.

    Anyway, I’ll post here details on how we need the system to work and could you be so kind to let me know if your custom plugin would work for us?

    What we need is:
    a) – each vendor to have a minimum order amount – What I mean is customers have to buy products from that vendor so that their total cost exceeds the minimum order amount set for that certain vendor.

    b) – each vendor has his own delivery fee

    For example:

    Vendor 1 wants to only accept delivery for customers that order products of at least $50 and he wants to charge $10 per delivery.

    Vendor 2 wants to only accept delivery for customers that order products of at least $35 and he charges $12 per shipping and for orders over $100 he wants to ship them free.

    So if a customer orders from vendor1 in amount of $60 and vendor2 in amount of $45 he will have to pay a total of: $127 (=$60+$10 + $45+$12).

    c) – each vendor only delivers to certain zip codes

    So we wouldn’t use weight, lenght, height, width, but are a)+b)+c) possible with your custom plugin?

    Thank you,
    Ami
